What our region offers
Family and Education
The district and city of Roth are pioneers in the availability of childcare places: From classic kindergartens to day care centres, forest kindergartens and crèche, the city of Roth meets every need. Of course our company also offers its own childcare for all 0-3 year old children of our employees.
There are also primary schools in every town in the district and in most of them there are even secondary schools. Several secondary schools, grammar schools and a business school offer comprehensive education for the next generation. The large University of Erlangen-Nuremberg can be reached by car or train in less than an hour, and the Ansbach University of Applied Sciences in even less time. Another university is currently being built in Nuremberg. Top-level research by, for example, the Fraunhofer Institute and the economic and research power of companies in the metropolitan region round off the best future prospects for you and your family.
The main attraction of our region are the waters of the Franconian Lake District.
The Rothsee, the Altmühlsee as well as the big and small Brombachsee offer countless leisure possibilities: In addition to swimming, you can practise many water sports, such as kite surfing, pedal boating and sailing.
Or you can simply spend a day on the beach with minigolf and (ball/) playgrounds, rickshaw and bicycle hire, visit the climbing garden, the LBV environmental stations or enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the holiday region. Information about the Lakeland: www.fraenkisches-seenland.de
Events and celebrations
In Roth and the surrounding area there are many high-quality recurring events: One of the biggest is of course the Challenge Triathlon, which takes place in Roth and the surrounding area and leads through large parts of the district.
On a cultural level, the Roth Bluestage is to be highlighted: every spring, the Kulturfabrik in Roth brings many great international artists to the stage.
But also smaller celebrations take place each year, for example the “Wasserradfest” in Georgensgmünd, various Christmas markets, as well as the knight plays in Abenberg and Hilpoltstein and the “Burgfest Hilpoltstein”. Not to forget also the parish fairs in the summer as well as the family Christmas markets.
Recreation & Sports
The district of Roth has a varied natural landscape worth exploring. Numerous hiking and cycling trails have been created and maps are available from the Roth District Office.
Many restaurants and beer gardens invite you to take a break. Beers from the district are also often served here, e.g. Pyraser or Spalter.
There are also numerous leisure facilities such as (mini) golf courses, rally tracks, MTB trails and much more.
In addition to the lakes, there are also several outdoor swimming pools, such as in Allersberg, Heideck, Hilpolstein and Roth, as well as the indoor swimming pools in Georgensgmünd and Greding. The ambitious local clubs and associations offer a wide range of sporting and social activities and the adult education centre of the district of Roth offers an extremely varied programme of leisure activities and further training. Especially for children and young people, the youth office of the city of Roth and the Kreisjugendring Roth organise many activities such as the holiday programme.
In Roth and in many of the towns around Roth many museums are located which give the visitor an understanding of the local history.
In addition to cabaret stages throughout the district, the Kulturfabrik in Roth in particular offers a varied cultural programme with top-class concerts and cabaret performances as well as exhibitions for the bustling regional art scene.
Roth, Schwabach, Gunzenhausen and Georgensgmünd have their own cinemas, each with its own charm. The larger cities in the region, such as Nuremberg or Schwabach, offer a lively nightlife.
Connection to Nuremberg and the surrounding area
Roth and its surroundings are part of the Nuremberg metropolitan region. The nearby motorways A6, A9 and A3 allow you to travel quickly in any direction at any time. Nuremberg airport is only 30 minutes away.
From Roth, you can take the train to Nuremberg's main railway station (Hauptbahnhof), which is about 30 km away, in just 20 minutes.
As the oldest and second largest city in Bavaria, Nuremberg offers a wide range of cultural and other leisure activities: including a historic old town with the medieval Kaiserburg, numerous museums, state theatres and opera houses, as well as many smaller theatres, shopping miles, a zoo, the documentation centre and large and small cinemas.
Countless recurring major events such as the Blue Night, Rock in the Park, the Classic Open Air, the Bardentreffen, the city tours, folk festivals and the famous Nuremberg Christmas Market are fixed dates by far not only for Nurembergers. And of course the 1.FCN and the Icetigers as well as the HC Erlangen also play an important role in the sportive-cultural life of the 500.000 inhabitants’ city with its surrounding area.
A trip to Munich by car takes about 1.5 hours. Within one hour from Roth you can reach either the Franconian Switzerland north of Nuremberg or the Altmühl Valley south of Nuremberg, both of which are extremely popular with hikers and climbers and the former can also score with the highest brewery density in the world.
