The type and function of the metal pigments, rather than the effect, are crucial criteria in the formulation of anti-corrosion coatings and primers. Lamellar metal pigments provide effective barrier protection by extending the diffusion paths for moisture or other corrosive media. In addition to barrier protection, zinc flake pigments offer additional cathodic corrosion protection at low pigment concentrations and layer thicknesses to provide the coated metal with effective and long-term protection against corrosion.
